Alberto is one of the leading lights in the Roero wine appellation, which lies north of the Tanaro river across from Barolo and Barbaresco.
Alberto makes his home in the western part of the Roero along the Rocche hill formation. Its unique sand and limestone soil compositon was formed by ebbs and flows of the ancient sea several million years ago.
The natural habitat of the Roero has been preserved due to the soft soil. This creates perfect conditions for Alberto’s very low interventionist approach to viticulture and his cellar work.
Alberto has four areas of production:
Anime 1.2 ha is very steep. A part is being planted. There are 90 year vines here.
Le Coste 0.4 ha with another 0.5 ha added in 2022.
In Canale 1 ha of Arneis.
In Caudana a 2 ha parcel.
With every vintage release, Alberto’s wines grow in importance. Today, I consider them among the best value for money in Piedmont.
