PACINA - Donesco 2019
(Donesco, an anagram of Il Secondo, the second wine of Pacina)
"I am always taken aback by Pacina’s masculine tannin personality, which I put down to tannin typicity in the southern part of Castelnuovo Berardenga village appellation. This affords the taster an excellent opportunity to compare tannin in the cement-aged Donesco with the wood-aged Pacina. It is obvious that the tannin presence in both wines is territorial rather than oenological. Natural tannin in wine is so much more exciting than added tannin. It is better integrated with a finer mouthfeel, and surely offers superior digestibility. Rather than a winemaker’s whim, natural tannin is part of the terroir expression.
Add to that an iodine, seaweed, crushed oyster and seashell still life of the beach several million years ago, and we have ourselves one of the great terroir expressions of Chianti".
