Panevino
Panevino by Gianfranco Manca is in Nurri.
An hour's drive, driving north from Cagliari. Here you can meet one of the most uncompromising, straightforward and free figures on the Italian wine scene. Gianfranco Manca was born as a baker, when he was very young he took over his uncle's bakery to produce the classic Sardinian bread whose tradition he learned from his mother and aunt. His oven and bread became the best in the country. The name of the winery betrays the moment of transformation/vital creation.
The experience gained in baking led him to investigate the alcoholic fermentation-transformation of wine. He decided to recover old family vines planted with sapling and abandoned for some time, at the end of the 1980s. Successively planted other varieties of the territory: Cannonau, Murisuterru, Molletu, Semidano, Nuragus, Vernaccia, Retallada etc., about 30 different types of grapes on five plots spread over a total of six hectares of land with an extremely varied composition, clayey, schistose, limestone at 700 meters above sea level. Ten years of dedication to deepen the knowledge of the earth and its plants and from 1994 to 2005 he produced without marketing under its current label. Today he produces about 15 thousand bottles - unique works - because they are always different from year to year - inside and outside the bottle - without any intervention in the vineyard or in the cellar.
Wines intended as forms of art, canvases where you can paint always different emotions and feelings. Wines in which to bottle emotions. In this his wines are very personal because they reflect the thoughts and experiences of that vintage and these are communicated with a new name and a new label at each edition, always telling a different story.
They are not wines that want to represent a terroir, a concept that Gianfranco has overcome to bring the strength of grapes and those who transform them back to the center of his work, without schemes and without protocols. For this irreplaceable, unique work.
