It is not possible to talk about Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi - what can be considered as one of the greatest Italian white wines - without underlining what is the personality of Natalino Crognaletti, the true soul of that splendid winemaking reality in the Marche region that bears the name of “Fattoria San Lorenzo”.
From the cellar of Montecarotto - incidentally the province is that of Ancona - in fact come out season after season, harvest after harvest, wines of extraordinary expressiveness, elegant and relaxed, among the best examples not only of the Marche but of all that is the enological stage of whole of Central Italy.
A story with distant roots that is handed down from father to son but that knows a real turning point at the end of the last century, in 1995 to be precise, when Natalino takes over the reins of the company immediately imposing himself on the attention of enthusiasts and experts thanks to bottles full of personality, shining examples of that tradition that is so sought after and so much praised today.
The winery can currently count on a vineyard extension of about thirty hectares, where the plants that reach even fifty years of age, give off clusters that translate into an annual average of about 80 thousand bottles. White wines that know how to combine finesse and vertical structure, from the simplest Verdicchio “di Gino” to the legendary “Campo delle Oche” Riserva. Structured red wines and at the same time always characterized by a certain freshness and a great drinkability, from the Rosso Piceno “di Gino” to the various “crus” of the company, such as the “Vigna Burello” or the “Vigna Paradiso”. Bottles always derived from a particularly environmentally friendly approach, whereby the vineyards are treated only with copper and sulfur, without synthetic products and without ever resorting to chemical herbicides.
Labels that represent the highest oenological expression of the Marche region, and which are in particular to be placed on the steps of the podium of the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi appellation.
Natalino Crognaletti is the soul of Fattoria San Lorenzo, one of the winemakers with the greatest personality in the entire Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi area. Dynamic and exuberant, tied to his land and defender of traditions against the fashions of the moment, he lets his wines be on the palate: splendid expressions of the Marche region, with great evolutionary potential.
The wines of the Fattoria San Lorenzo have a rustic and traditional style and are the result of ancient farming practices: organic management of the vineyards, minimal interventions in the cellar, long maturation on yeasts for white wines and high extractions for reds, use of indigenous yeasts and minimal additions of sulfur. Time, concrete vats and old barrels are Natalino's only allies in the production of territorial wines, rich in personality and character: not attributable to any type of homologation.
