Grape varitey: Nebbiolo
Is very exciting that we are able to promote, to offer you, a vertical tasting of 4 vintages, while they last and starting with the eldest:
Another two years of experience for Luca, and here for the first time I personally can see what Luca has been aiming for the whole time, all of the vintages from 2014 to 2018 have been a beautiful expression of one of the very important vineyard crus, or “Menzione Geografica Aggiunta”, the MGA, in Roero and the vineyard site that Luca is the custodian of, is very special, very steep, old vineyard, with the typical low intervention respect, that Luca and Carolina are giving it, but in the 2018 the combination of a warm, but very balanced vintage, and Luca’s cellar experience, Valmaggiore Riserva experience, more use of the barrels, so that the barrels are now becoming neutral, the 2018 now has become a brilliant complex Nebbiolo.
The grapes come from a single vineyard (only one) based in Audinaggio, in Valmaggiore mga, in Vezza d'Alba municipality. The original core of this vineyard dates back to 1947 and the steep slope of the hill only allows manual processing. The exposure is south-east, south, south-west; the soil is sandy.
The grapes are harvested at the best state of ripeness depending on each vintage and on the plants. Wine is the result of grapes fermentation and maceration which last a couple of weeks; the period can change based on the vintage and on its climatic conditions.
After the required aging in casks, the wine is bottled in the waning moon of autumn following the harvest. Finally after a further rest in bottle for almost two year, the wine is ready to be sold. In the best vintages it may boast the mention of "reserve".
