Grape variety: Rossese di Dolceacqua
Rossese di Dolceacqua from Testalonga is a Mediterranean wine, spicy, energetic and pleasantly rustic, aged for about 1 year in very old oak barrels. It expresses tones of Mediterranean bushes, black pepper, olives and cherries and is very fresh, delicate and energetic on the palate. It has good potential for aging. Wine made by artisanal methods as before.
Rossese di Dolceacqua "Testalonga" is a fresh, fragrant and Mediterranean red that conquers with its distinctive, true and straightforward immediacy. A wine that jealously retains its original and characteristic craftsmanship profile. It is made by a small producer who works with great respect for the land, following a centuries-old tradition. Rossese is an ancient vine, historically present in the small inland region of the Riviera di Ponente, towards the French border. A typical territorial variety that has found the ideal soil and climate in the Dolceacqua area to be of excellent quality.
"Testalonga" wine was born on a small plot of land managed by Nino Perrino near Dolceacqua, on the terraces of the steep hills of Arcagna and Casigliano, which are among the most suitable cross-country areas for the Rossese vine. It is a historic vineyard with centuries-old plants, which has always been managed only with sulfur and copper, long before there was talk of certified organic farming. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are transported to the cellar and, after pressing, they are fermented together with the stems with maceration on the skins for about 18 days. The whole process of wine production takes place in a completely natural way, using autochthonous yeasts and spontaneous fermentation, without any temperature control. After draining, Rossese matures for at least a year in old 500-liter oak barrels, which no longer give off any aroma and only serve to promote minimal microoxygenation. After bottling, the wine rests in the cellar for several months before it is put on sale.
Rossese "Testalonga" Nino Perrino is the most authentic and direct expression of the Ligurian Riviera di Ponente. An etiquette that immediately communicates the passion and work of a winemaker who wants to use his wines to highlight the varietal characteristics of the vine and the beautiful Dolceacqua area. The glass has a light ruby color with brilliant reflections. The nose smells of cherries, red berries, aromatic herbs typical of the Mediterranean shrub, delicate spicy tones and sea iodine memories. The sip is smooth and fresh, dynamic and pleasant. The red wine is medium-bodied, soft and harmonious, with fine tannins and good persistence at the end, with a slightly peppery aftertaste.
