Grape varieties: Sangiovese
This wine is a direct red with an irresistible drinkability, a genuine expression of Sangiovese. The "base" wine that we would like to have on the table every day, although this desire clashes with the limited number of bottles available. Massa Vecchia, a winery founded in 1985 and always dedicated to a respectful and non-interventionist approach, extends for only 6 hectares in the heart of the Maremma, and therefore the size and production philosophy have always remained purely artisanal. Sangiovese first of all, then Trebbiano, Malvasia and some international grape varieties such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which always give life to territorial, expressive, exciting liquids. Value for money par excellence.
The red Batone is obtained from 100% Sangiovese grapes, coming from the youngest vines available. The approach in the vineyard only involves the use of copper and a little sulfur. After manual sorting of the grapes and de-stemming, the alcoholic fermentation occurs spontaneously in concrete tanks. Refinement lasts for a few months in large wooden barrels, without undergoing clarification or filtration.
It has the typical Sangiovese vest, an intense ruby that fades towards the edge of the glass. A territorial, pulsating and energetic nose, where clear references to blood orange, earthiness, wild herbs and undergrowth stand out. The aromatics reveal themselves varied and dynamic. The taste tells of an equally snappy and energetic wine, played on simplicity and ease of drinking. Freshness, salt and tannin all line up in the same direction and the bottle, if accompanied with dignity, ends quickly.
