Summer Wolff

Summer has imported wines to the USA for many years and works with many special producers. Based out of Montaldo Cerrina, Summer is nose-deep in all matters wine.

During my last visit in September 2024, I was excited to try Summer’s rendition of a macerated Baratuciat. It works! The grape variety carries itself above the larger structure of the wine with a wonderful freshness to it.

Freisa is a favourite of Summer, and of mine. As a lesser cousin of Nebbiolo with less refined tannins, Freisa ranges from the traditional slightly frizzante style which sometimes remains off-dry, to lighter interpretations of the grape’s potential. I suspect that both forms are trying to escape the challenge that the variety poses. Summer has created a light yet elegant Freisa, what a joy! 

I often underline that labels are unimportant in lieu of the contents, but I do find the Giogio and Ette labels beautiful!
